The UK government have introduced a scheme where they will give you a voucher worth £400 towards the cost of changing your heating oil boiler. In order to be eligible for this scheme you will have to have a G rated oil boiler which is over 25 years of age. There are 120,000 vouchers available and only 50,000 of them have been claimed so far. So if you have been thinking that you would love to get rid of your old boiler then you will have an extra incentive now.

The reason for this new boiler scheme is not about the government wanting to be generous but more the fact that they want to encourage energy savings and help the environment. Not only does having a new boiler mean that you can get one of these vouchers, but it also means that you are likely to save £200 a year by having these new energy-efficient boilers. This means that there are plenty of incentives for people to scrap their old heating oil boiler and get an ‘A’ rated boiler instead. New boilers are also better for the environment because they produce less CO2 emissions.

Unfortunately the boiler scheme is only available to those living in England. The reason for this is that the devolved governments in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will need to decide if they wish to implement such as scheme.

If you are a resident of England you will need to find out the specifications of your boiler to find out if it meets the criteria. This means checking to see if it is G rated and whether or not it is over twenty five years old. Most G rated boilers have a permanent pilot light so this is a fairly good indication. Heating oil boilers over twenty five years will also tend to be G rated.

Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of Boilerjuice ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
